Fire Prevention Bureau

The Tinley Park Fire Prevention Bureau exists to provide professional fire, life safety and other related services to the residents, property owners and managers of occupancies within the Village of Tinley Park. It strives to be viewed as a true resource to those property owners seeking to maintain or improve the fire and life safety capabilities of their occupancies.

Organization / Staffing

Fire Prevention Administrator Ken Dunn leads the Fire Prevention Bureau. Administrator Dunn oversees an office staff of four, one full-time and eight part-time fire inspectors.

The Fire Prevention Bureau is currently located at the Public Safety Building at 17355 S. 68th Court. The Fire Prevention Bureau can be contacted at (708) 444-5200.

Services

The Fire Prevention Bureau offers the following services to the residents and property owners of Tinley Park:

§         Fire and Life Safety Surveys for buildings of all occupancy type

§         Tests of Automatic Sprinkler, Fire Alarm and Fixed Protection Systems

§         Plan reviews of automatic sprinkler, fire alarm and new and existing building construction

§         Residential Home Fire Safety Surveys

§         Fire Extinguisher and Emergency Evacuation Training Modules

§         Key Entry Box Installations

§         Underground Storage Tank Installation Surveys

Eventually, the Fire Prevention Bureau hopes to offer some of its services "on line."

Occupancy Inspections

Inspections are performed by full-time Bureau staff members, part-time members and by the on-duty fire companies. Prior to any fire prevention visit, the current file is reviewed by staff. Appointments will be made in advance when possible. Prior to the start of any inspection or activity, representatives from the Fire Prevention Bureau will meet and introduce themselves to property management. The survey will be conducted in a time efficient, courteous and professional manner. The members conducting the survey will take detailed notes of their findings. After concluding the survey, a wrap-up consultation will be conducted.
