C.A.R.T.
The
Combined Agency Response Team (CART) was started in
1994, after several technical rescues in the area taxed
the abilities of the rescuers and their available
resources. Area
departments assessed those incidents, looking at the
equipment that was used, and the personnel trained to
perform this type of rescue. It was decided at that time
to form this unique rescue response team.
The Tinley Park Fire Department is a member of "The
Blue Team".
The
Blue Team consists of 9 members of the Tinley Park Fire
Department as well as members from Orland Park, Homer
Glenn, Northwest Homer, Alsip, and Palos Heights.
The
first priority of the team is to ensure the safety of
our personnel. This is accomplished through training and
education, the purchase of specialized equipment,
implementation of standard operating guidelines,
gathering of information to publish specialized
equipment lists and organizing group-type response to
CART incidents.
The
Blue CART Team operates with 40-50 Technical Rescue
Technicians. They
are all trained in
Vertical Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Advanced
Trench Rescue, and Light and Heavy Weight Structural
Collapse Rescue.
The Blue Team is 1 of only 5 Technical Rescue Teams
within the state of Illinois to be certified for a level
A disaster response.
